A database for chess games

A sample screen image of ChessTab.

Top left is a list of all games in the database.

Top right is a list of the repertoires defined for searching the games.

Middle right is the 'Ruy Lopez' repertoire, which is active.

Bottom right is a list of the games containing the position on the'Ruy Lopez' repertoire board.

The highlighted game in this list was selected for display and is shown with the larger board because it is the active game. The position reached after playing the highlighted move (Nf3) is shown on the board.

Bottom left is a list of the games containing the position on the board in the active game with just the moves into, and out of, the position. The moves are highlighted if different from the game.

The highlighted game in this list was selected for display and is (one of) the games displayed with a smaller board in the middle column.

Two of the visible games in this list have the next move highlighted red. These games vary from the active game on the move played in the position on the board.

Below all the lists and games and partial positions is an area where some details from the active element are shown. In this example the list of games on the database was the active element and the detail is the date of the highlighted game.

The list of all games in the database can be displayed in order by one of the seven standard Portable Game Notation (PGN) Tags. These include the players with the white and black pieces. Games with a particular standard PGN Tag value can be listed.

Any number of games, repertoires, and partial positions, can be displayed. The active item of each kind is larger than the rest.

Any analysis done previously for a position by a chess engine is displayed with the position. The chess engine does not have to be active at the time.

The screen images were taken on a 1280 x 1024 monitor using most of the width.

Bottom left is a list of the games containing the position in the active game with just the moves into, and out of, the position. The moves are highlighted if different from the game. This list is not changed to fit the current position in the engine analysis.
